When I first started practicing witchcraft, I was told that I could use my body as an altar instead of having to create one. As someone who was so new and unsure, this piece of advice really stuck out to me.
I mean my first thoughts were, How is that even possible?
I wanted to worship Aphrodite, so what had my body got to do with it?
And then I realized that they were right. I could be my Altar to Aphrodite. All I had to do was treat myself well and dress in a way that made me feel beautiful.
I started to think about what I put into my body more often, skipping out on the food that was notorious for giving me stomach aches. I listened to myself when I needed to do something for my health. I took care of my appearance in a way that I liked, and I was always polite and kind to the people around me; I was representing my goddess.
Treating my body like an altar was a really amazing experience, and I’ve decided to start doing it again. Here are some ways you can treat your body like an altar:
- Workout or be physically active in a way you love. It will help you stay healthy and happy.
- Wear clothes that correspond with the deity you worship.
- Add jewellery that reminds you of that particular deity and wear it like altar decor.
- Write prayers to your deity and put them in your pocket to carry around with you.
- Eat foods like offerings; would you eat this and also share some of it with a deity? Is it good enough for you? Cause trust me, you’re a god/goddess.
- Be kind and helpful to other people, but don’t take their shit. If you’re kind, and you are willing to help others, you’ll be so unique and radiant in this world. If you don’t take their shit, you’ll be a deity.
- Allow yourself to have “Me” time.
- Listen to what you’re body is trying to tell you. After all, it’s smarter than you!
- Take care of yourself and love the way you look. I’m not saying pile on tons of makeup or lose half your body weight. I’m saying take care of your hygiene while simultaneously loving yourself.
- Keep your time sacred. Spend some of it with your deity.
